Suncare Community Services Carer's Forum - Caboolture, Queensland - 26 February 2013
Noeline was pleased to attend another wonderful event for carers in the Caboolture area organised by Suncare Community Services."What impressed me about this particular forum was they had a panel of carers speak about their experiences," Noeline said.
"I was moved by their stories of hardship and hope, resilience and love.
"Talking about their personal experiences of being a carer and what strategies they put in place to cope with the challenges they face on a daily basis was so inspiring, and I assume very helpful to other carers attending that day.
"These people really are true heroes in my eyes and sadly they don't often get the public recognition they deserve for spending their lives helping others." Noeline said.
Anyone wanting to find out what services and assistance they can receive as a carer please call 1800 200 422.

Launch of Tamar Valley (Tasmania) U3A - 18 February 2013
Noeline was really pleased to see so many people attended the launch of the Tamar Valley U3A which was held at Exeter, just outside Launceston, Tasmania."It is always wonderful to see another U3A chapter emerge on the Australian landscape," Noeline said.
"The Tamar Valley U3A is destined for a healthy future if the attendance at the launch is any indication."
According to Noeline older people of today want to fill their retirement years with not only moments of relaxation, but they also want to spend their time challenging themselves.
"And what better way to challenge yourself than learning something new and interesting in a friendly non-threatening environment such as the courses offered by U3A," Noeline said.

Visit to the City of Hobart's Mathers House - 15 February 2013
Noeline was pleased to discover that Hobart City Council is working hard to create a community environment where older people can feel valued and respected for their knowledge, life experiences, skills, stories, history, creativity and wisdom. To help create this positive environment for older people the Council offers a range of programs and activities that support and encourage positive ageing. As part of their positive ageing agenda, Hobart City Council provides a venue, called Mathers House, where people over 50 can meet and enjoy a range of activities in a warm, welcoming, cheerful and safe environment. Mathers House has on offer a wide range of social, recreational, cultural and educational activities for Hobart's older residents, and there are low cost meals provided each weekday.
Noeline was made to feel very welcome during her visit to Mathers House and she got to enjoy some afternoon tea with the people who came along to meet her.
"It is wonderful to see such a great community venue, made possible by the Hobart City Council, where people can enjoy a variety of activities in a friendly environment," Noeline said.

Visit to Saint Canice Lifestyle Village - 15 February 2013
Noeline was very impressed with the Saint Canice Lifestyle Village, particularly the architecture and history of the heritage building and the church. The site where the heritage buildings are located was originally purchased in November 1886 for the purpose of building a reformatory for women. It has also been used as a Convent. In recent times the site was purchased by Southern Cross Care Tasmania to build a retirement village. Southern Cross Care has successfully created, with the help of a leading Tasmanian architect and several builders, a multifaceted village containing ultra modern villas, garden apartments and heritage apartments.
As part of her presentation, Noeline was asked to talk about the benefits of retirement village living. "I think the best thing about these types of villages is the community," Noeline said. "Being part of a community of seniors and enjoying the social contact, interaction, companionship and security that community living provides is really important to healthy active ageing."
According to Noeline another benefit of retirement village living is the lifestyle and convenience. "I believe most retirement villages offer a range of shared common areas and facilities, which is great when you want to get together to do things like watch a movie together, play chess or have a game of cards," Noeline said.
Noeline finished her speech by congratulating the residents for creating a strong and welcoming community atmosphere.
