23 February 2012 - Combined Probus Club of Dapto

"What I noticed immediately about the members of the Combined Probus Club of Dapto was their sense of fun and commitment to each other,' Noeline said.

"They are a great example of what ageing positively is all about. They are connected to life and their community, and they know life doesn't end after retirement."

During Noeline's speech she talked about the ageing population and what that means for Australia, and she assured the audience that the Australian Government is aware of what a great asset older people are to our nation.

"In March last year the Australian Government established the Advisory Panel on the Economic Potential of Senior Australians to examine how we can best harness the opportunities that a growing number of older Australians will bring in the future," Noeline said.

The Panel's final report will help the Government to set an agenda for the future which will be beneficial to older people and the Ambassador encourages people to have a look at the report which can be found at http://www.treasury.gov.au/EPSA/content/publications/grey_gold/downloads/grey_gold.pdf.

Suncare Community Services Health and Wellbeing Carers' Forum - Rockhampton, Qld, 8 February 2012

Having attended two Carers' Forums in November last year with Suncare Community Services, Noeline was invited to Rockhampton to attend another one of their forums which are aimed at providing carers with strategies to build their resilience.

"Whenever I meet a carer I am touched by their story. They are all amazing people who spend their time helping others, often sacrificing their own health to look after someone they love," Noeline said.

"Attending these forums has allowed me to help carers see how important they are and my message to them is they need to look after their needs as well.

"Building one's resilience is vitally important, particularly for carers because their lives are so challenging. Sometimes bad things happen to us and the people we love, but it is our ability to bounce back that will get us through the tough times.

"I hope Suncare Community Services continues to improve the lives of carers by organising more of these very valuable community forums in the future," Noeline said.
