Information and events the Ambassador for Ageing attended in August, 2010.

Guest Speaker – Ageing Well Healthy Living Expo – Coffs Harbour, NSW – 25 August 2010

It was a great mix of guests at the Ageing Well, Healthy Living Expo held in Coffs Harbour, with around 800 older Australians, family and friends attending the event. The Expo focussed on health promotion and illness prevention. Noeline opened the event with a message on the importance of social inclusion in maintaining both physical and mental health. Noeline also emphasised the importance of being aware of services available in the community and highlighted how useful the expo was in bringing the range of services to one central location.

Guest Speaker – Pharmacy Women’s Congress – Hobart, Tas – 20 August 2010

The annual Pharmacy Women’s Congress brings together female pharmacists from around Australia to inspire and encourage. As Guest Speaker, Noeline provided an important message around ageing well, not just for women in their pharmacy practice, but also for the women to apply in their everyday life.

Guest Speaker – Positive Ageing Fair – Cairns, QLD - 19 August 2010

Noeline was warmly welcomed by local seniors at Positive Ageing Cairn’s, Positive Ageing Fair. In opening the day, Noeline had the opportunity to share about how as an older Australian herself, she remains physically and socially active. The Peace Senior Choir provided wonderful entertainment and allowed for great opportunities to mix across generations.

Guest Speaker – Golden Idol - Surfers Paradise, QLD – 15 August 2010

Volunteering Gold Coast and Gold Coast City Council once again hosted Golden Idol at Surfers Paradise. The event showcases the talents of the over 55’s and provided an opportunity to launch Seniors Week.

Noeline was thrilled to be asked to participate as a special guest judge and also have the opportunity to speak to contestants, friends, family and the Gold Coast community about the importance of healthy ageing.

Guest Speaker – PresCare Vela Seniors Expo - Brisbane, QLD – 14 August 2010

Noeline’s time in Brisbane was well spent with the community of Carindale at the PresCare Vela Seniors Expo. The event drew a crowd of around 200 people who were pleased to hear of Noeline’s role as Ambassador for Ageing. Noeline also took the opportunity to dispel some of the myths of ageing, leaving the audience entertained and inspired!

Guest Speaker – Fraser Coast Seniors Expo – Hervey Bay, QLD – 13 August 2010

Noeline was pleased to open the Fraser Coast Seniors Expo, an event showcasing businesses and services for the over 50 years!

Along with around 1000 residents of the Fraser Coast, Noeline enjoyed meeting some of the 70 exhibitors and experiencing some of the entertainment of the Fraser Coast!

Guest Speaker – Alice Springs Visit – 2 & 3 August 2010

Noeline enjoyed her first trip to the Northern Territory in her capacity as Australia’s Ambassador for Ageing. The trip provided a wonderful opportunity to meet with Maggie Beer, Senior Australian of the Year 2010 and also to meet the community at the Old Timers Village.

Noeline shared her views and stories about positive ageing, and she was happy to hear from Northern Territorians about their experience as older Australians.
