Tamworth Legacy Changeover Luncheon, Tamworth NSW - 20 April 2012

Tamworth Legacy celebrated it's 64th year in 2012. Noeline was invited to the anniversary event to talk about healthy active ageing and the benefits of volunteering.

Noeline firstly congratulated Legacy for all the good they do for the families of deceased veterans.

"Legacy is a wonderful organisation which assists over 100,000 widows and other family members," Noeline said.

"Legacy is a voluntary organisation which is supported by veterans, servicemen and women, and volunteers from all walks of life. It is an organisation dedicated to enhancing the lives of so many family members of deceased veterans.

"During my speech I was thrilled to be able to promote some of my healthy active ageing messages to the young people attending the event. I particularly enjoyed encouraging them to love their vegetables and start planning for their futures."

Noeline spent time after the official ceremony mingling with the guests and she wished the current and past servicemen and women attending the event to have a great ANZAC Day.

Noosa Association of Independent Retirees 20th Anniversary Luncheon - Noosa QLD - 12 April 2012

Noeline attended the 20th Anniversary event of the Noosa Association of Independent Retirees and the President commented that her attendance drew the biggest crowd they'd seen in a while.

During her speech, Noeline talked about what she wanted to see in the future for older Australians. "One of my goals as Ambassador for Ageing is to help create an older population that is a valued social resource providing care, sharing skills and knowledge," she said.

Noeline also spoke to the audience about the establishment of the Advisory Panel on the Economic Potential of Senior Australians. "The reason the Australian Government created my role is because they want to engender a healthy and active older population, and this is in line with why they established the Advisory Panel," she said.

The establishment of the Panel came about at a time when Australia is experiencing a period of considerable economic, social, demographic and technological change that has implications for all Australians.

"I think Australia is much better placed today than ever before to deal with our growing older population, and one of the tasks the Advisory Panel was asked to look at was how we can capitalise on the wealth of experience and energy of older Australians in the future," Noeline said.

The Panel came up with 36 recommendations relating to an ageing agenda, housing, workforce participation, lifelong learning, active ageing, volunteering and age discrimination. On the 18 April 2012, the Australian Government announced its initial response to these recommendations.
