Geoff Webster Memorial Lecture , Maffra 25 May 2011
The beautiful town of Maffra in Victoria gave Noeline a warm welcome during her visit on 25 May. Noeline was invited by the Geoff Webster Memorial committee to talk about her role as Ambassador for Ageing. The annual Geoff Webster Memorial address is an important event in Maffra and Noeline's visit certainly attracted a big crowd of locals.
Noeline provided positive messages about growing older and she dispelled some myths. One of the myths Noeline talked about seemed to really resonate with the audience, and that was in relation to older people in the workforce. The audience was thrilled to hear that research proves older workers are more motivated to exceed expectations on the job than their younger counterparts, and that mature aged workers have fewer accidents at work than younger colleagues.
Noeline ended her speech by saying that older people know the truth about growing older and it isn't all bad. "Yes there can be some challenges as we age but older age can be just as fabulous as the other stages of our lives," Noeline said.
