2011 Aged Care Approvals Round Results

A total of 9,657 new aged care places will be allocated across Australia with an estimated annual recurrent funding value of approximately $368 million.

The new places comprise:

    7,933 residential aged care places;
    1,419 Community Aged Care Packages (CACPs);
    203 Extended Aged Care at Home (EACH) packages; and
    102 Extended Aged Care at Home Dementia (EACHD) packages.
In addition, $58.5 million in capital grants will be allocated to assist aged care providers build or improve residential aged care services.

A total of $150 million in zero real interest loans will be offered to providers to build 972 of the new residential places, as well as making 147 provisionally allocated places operational.

The 2011 Extra Service Approvals Round was run in conjunction with the 2011 ACAR. Extra Service status has been approved in relation to 4,354 residential care places. Details of the results can be found at www.health.gov.au/ess.

The 2011 Aged Care Approvals Round (ACAR) is a competitive assessment process that allocates aged care places to applicants who best demonstrate they can meet the needs of the ageing population within a specified region. Decisions on the aged care places are made independently by the Department of Health and Ageing.

Deferred allocations

As at 21 December 2011, the above places include deferred applications from applicants who are awaiting the required approved provider status. The deferred allocations comprise:
  • 63 Low Care Residential places and 5 Community Aged Care Packages in New South Wales; and
  • 60 High Care Residential places and 80 Low Care Residential places in Victoria.
As the approved provider applications are progressively approved, this website, listing the details of the successful applicants in the 2011 ACAR, will be updated.

All applicants will receive written notification of the results of their application(s).

Successful applicants will also receive a follow-up letter from the Department with further details of their approval, including conditions of allocation.

Unsuccessful applicants for new places have the opportunity to obtain feedback from the Department regarding their application(s).
