Results of the 2009-10 Aged Care Approvals Round

A total of 12,272 new aged care places will be allocated across Australia with recurrent funding of approximately $450 million a year.

The new places comprise:

• 5,643 new residential aged care places;
• 2,408 new Community Aged Care Packages (CACP);
• 2,714 new Extended Aged Care at Home (EACH) packages; and
• 1,507 new EACH Dementia packages (EACH D)

In addition, more than $41.6 million in capital grants will be allocated to assist aged care providers build or improve residential aged care services. $2.4 million will be allocated as Community and Flexible Care Grants.

A total of $147 million in Zero Real Interest Loans (ZRIL) will be offered to providers to build 819 of the new residential places.

The new places are part of the 2009-10 Aged Care Approvals Round – a competitive assessment process that allocates aged care places to providers who best demonstrate they can meet the needs of the ageing population within a specified region. Decisions on the aged care places are made independently by the Department of Health and Ageing.

A summary of the new aged care places, capital grants and community and flexible grants is attached. The Department of Health and Ageing is writing to unsuccessful applicants.

Of the 5,643 new residential places listed above, 312 have also been approved for extra service status.

Deferred allocations

As at 12 January 2011, the above places include deferred applications from providers who are awaiting approved provider status. The deferred allocations comprise:

• 12 CACPs and 2 EACHD packages in New South Wales;
• 26 EACH packages and 10 EACHD packages in Victoria;
• 10 CACPs, 65 EACH packages and 20 EACHD packages in Queensland;
• 20 CACPs, 37 EACH packages and 5 EACHD packages in Western Australia;
• 3 CACPs in Tasmania; and
• 11 EACH packages and 10 EACHD packages in the Northern Territory.

As the approved provider applications are progressively approved, this website, listing the details of the successful applicants in the 2009-10 Aged Care Approvals Round, will be updated.

All applicants will receive written notification of the results of their application(s).

Successful applicants will receive a follow-up letter from the Department with further details of their approval, including conditions of allocation.

Unsuccessful applicants have the opportunity to obtain feedback from the Department regarding their application(s).

Unsuccessful applicants for capital grants will receive separate written advice providing reasons as to why their capital grant application was not successful.
