Results of the 2008-09 Aged Care Approvals Round

Thousands More Aged Care Places for Older Australians

A total of 10,447 new aged care places will be allocated across Australia, the Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot, announced on 30 June 2009.

The 10,447 places worth more than $347 million a year in estimated recurrent funding comprise:
    • 5,748 new residential aged care places, worth more than $230 million a year;
    • 2,944 new Community Aged Care Packages;
    • 1,193 new Extended Aged Care at Home (EACH) packages; and
    • 562 new EACH Dementia packages.
In addition, more than $51 million in capital grants will be allocated to assist aged care providers build or improve residential aged care services and $4.8 million will also be allocated as Community and Flexible Care Grants.

The new places are part of the 2008-09 Aged Care Approvals Round – an annual competitive assessment process that allocates new aged care places to providers who best demonstrate they can meet the needs of the ageing population within a specified region. Decisions on the aged care places are made independently by the Department of Health and Ageing.

Deferred allocations
As at 30 June 2009, the above places include four deferred allocations; the allocations are deferred pending finalisation of the relevant approved provider status application process. The deferred allocations include three Extended Aged Care at Home packages in Victoria; six Community Aged Care Packages and 10 Extended Aged Care at Home Dementia packages in Queensland; and 15 Extended Aged Care at Home packages in Western Australia.

    As the approved provider applications are progressively approved, this website, listing the details of the successful applicants in the 2008-09 Aged Care Approvals Round, will be updated.

    In order to provide applicants with further information about the 2008-09 Aged Care Approvals Round the new allocations are listed below - providing details of the allocations made to the successful applicants listed in order by state/territory and by approved provider.

    A more detailed list of the results by aged care planning regions will be provided shortly.

    Further information

    All applicants will receive written notification of the results of their application(s).

    Successful applicants will subsequently receive a follow-up letter from the Department with further details of their approval, including details of the relevant conditions of allocation.

    Unsuccessful applicants have the opportunity to obtain feedback from the Department regarding their application(s).

    Unsuccessful applicants for capital grants will receive separate written advice providing reasons as to why their capital grant application was not successful.
