Results of the 2005 Aged Care Approvals Round
Aged Care Boost: Over 11,000 New Places
On 15 December 2005, the former Minister for Ageing, the Hon Julie Bishop MP announced the outcome of the 2005 Aged Care Approvals Round. In this initial announcement almost 11,000 new places were allocated nation wide.Following further allocations, aged care across Australia will now be increased to over 11,000 new places – to more than 228,000 government-allocated places.
The Australian Government will provide more than $253 million in annual recurrent funding for the 5,227 residential places and 5,874 community places which have been allocated nationally.
The community places include:
- 4,307 new Community Aged Care Packages to support people in their communities;
- 900 new Extended Aged Care at Home packages to provide people higher-level care in their own homes; and
- 667 new Extended Aged Care at Home Dementia packages to help people living with a diagnosis of dementia that contributes to their high care needs remain in their own homes.

All applicants will receive written notification of the results of their application(s).Successful applicants will also receive a second written advice from the Department with further details of their approval, including details of the relevant conditions of allocation.
Unsuccessful applicants have the opportunity to obtain feedback from the Department regarding their application(s). In order to obtain this feedback, unsuccessful applicants should contact the appropriate State or Territory office of the Department; the Departmental contact telephone numbers are contained in Table 2.
If you are interested in obtaining feedback in relation to a places application, you are encouraged to contact the Department at the earliest opportunity.
If you have been unsuccessful in obtaining a capital grant allocation, the Department will send a second written advice providing reasons as to why the capital grant application was not successful.
