Genetic Services

A summary of the work being performed under the auspices of the Pathology Funding Agreement in relation to genetic testing services.

The Pathology Funding Agreement provides for the development of of an approach to genetic services (both somatic and germline). This work includes the consideration of appropriate future financial arrangements.

To assist with this work the Department has established the Genetics Working Party (GWP) to better inform the review of current genetic testing arrangements. The GWP consists of representatives of the pathology sector, the State and Territory Governments and consumer representatives.

Terms of Reference

As there are many stakeholders across the country with an interest in genetics, the GWP has developed a stakeholder engagement strategy that aims to ensure an as broad as possible awareness of the review.

Any parties with an interest in the current and future arrangements of publicly funded genetic services are invited to contribute their views and can do so:

The GWP is to provide its advice to the Department on possible reform options by 30 December 2012.
