MBS Review Taskforce meeting outcomes, 8 June 2017

On 8 June 2017, the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Review Taskforce (the Taskforce) held its 21st meeting as a teleconference. The following is a summary of the outcomes arising from the meeting.

Anaesthesia report for public consultation

The Taskforce agreed to the release of the Anaesthesia Clinical Committee (ACC) report for public consultation, following edits made to the report and further information provided to the Taskforce by the ACC.

Deletion of bone densitometry items

Two bone densitometry items (QCT items 12309 and 12318) were endorsed for deletion by the Taskforce as recommended by the Diagnostic Imaging Clinical Committee.

Consumer Principles

The Taskforce endorsed the Consumer Panel’s Consumer Principles, which will provide a single, coherent basis for the involvement of consumers in the Taskforce’s processes. The contribution of consumers will be aided by the Consumer Toolkit.

MBS geo-classification standards – Modified Monash Model

The Taskforce endorsed the Modified Monash Model to replace the current rural and remote geo-classification systems.

Tranche 3 clinical committees

Taskforce members noted the progress and recommendations emerging from the following Tranche 3 clinical committees:

  • Gynaecology
  • Orthopaedics
  • Diagnostic Medicine
