MBS Review Taskforce meeting outcomes, 6-7 March 2018

On 6-7 March 2018, the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Review Taskforce (the Taskforce) held its 27th meeting. The following is a summary of the outcomes arising from the meeting.

Modified Review Process

The Taskforce noted the accelerated timeline, as well as the changes to processes and structures, required to complete the Review by the end of 2018.

Upcoming Clinical Committees

The Taskforce discussed the potential Chairs/Advisers for clinical committees yet to be established.

Cardiac Clinical Committee

The Taskforce noted the amended recommendations of the Cardiac Clinical Committee following consultation.

Nuclear Medicine Working Group

The Taskforce endorsed the release of the Nuclear Medicine Report for consultation.

Principles and Rules Committee

The Taskforce endorsed the six principles developed by the Principles and Rules Committee outlining the high-level purpose of the MBS.

Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine Clinical Committee

The Taskforce endorsed for Government the recommendations of the Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine Clinical Committee.

Gynaecology Report Clinical Committee

The Taskforce re-endorsed the report from the Gynaecology Clinical Committee (GCC).

Clinical Committees

Taskforce noted updates provided on Neurology and Neurosurgery, Urology, Specialist Consultation Services, Eating Disorders and General Practice Primary Care - Phase Two.
