Medicare Benefits Schedule Review Taskforce meeting outcomes, 26 July 2017

On 26 July 2017, the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Review Taskforce (the Taskforce) held its 22nd meeting. The following is a summary of the outcomes arising from the meeting.

Diagnostic Imaging Clinical Committee – report on co-claiming of attendance items with imaging services for public consultation

The Taskforce endorsed, with some modifications, the release of the ‘Co-claiming of attendance items with imaging services’ report for public consultation. The report will be modified and reviewed by the Taskforce out of session, ahead of public consultation.

Diagnostic Imaging Clinical Committee – report on capital sensitivity for public consultation

The Taskforce approved the release of the capital sensitivity report for public consultation.

Pathology Clinical Committee – haematology report for public consultation

The Taskforce approved the release of the haematology report for public consultation.

Pathology Clinical Committee – genetics report for public consultation

The Taskforce approved the release of the genetics report for public consultation.

Surgical item design

The Taskforce endorsed the principles and rules developed by the MBS Principles and Rules Committee to promote consistent methodological approaches across future surgical clinical committees and to ensure outcomes are consistent with the Review’s objectives.

Representatives of the National Home Doctor Service and National Association for Medical Deputising made a presentation to the Taskforce.
