Stakeholder Engagement

Members discussed the outcomes from the first stakeholder forum which was held in Canberra on 8 July 2015. Members were advised that participants were pleasantly surprised at how effective the forum was considering the large number of participants. Members noted that engagement with stakeholders and consumers is a priority and the forums are only one method for engaging with stakeholders. Members noted that two more stakeholder forums would be held, in Adelaide (24 July) and Perth (25 July). Members agreed to give later consideration to holding forums in regional areas.

Governance structure for committees and working groups

Members discussed the method for compiling a proposed list of Clinical Committees to review the individual MBS items. Members endorsed the proposed approach to the governance structure for the reviews, using the Clinical Committees and Working Groups

Priority review items and rules

Members discussed the method for compiling a proposed ‘long list’ of MBS items to review. Members agreed that the list will be based on a number of sources including the various Choosing Wisely initiatives. It was agreed that at the next meeting, the Taskforce will determine which MBS items will receive priority in the review process.

MBS Review consultation paper

Members agreed that the consultation paper would be published in early September 2015. There will be a public submission process inviting submissions in response to issues and questions raised in the consultation paper.
