The Australian Government aims to improve the health and well-being outcomes for Australian children by encouraging early detection of lifestyle risk factors and physical health issues, and facilitating early intervention strategies through the Healthy Kids Check Medicare items. This initiative aligns with the broader policy agenda of optimising outcomes for children through attention to health, learning and development.

The MBS Healthy Kids Check can be delivered by a GP or a practice nurse, and includes health indicators such as height, weight, eyesight and hearing assessments. The Healthy Kids Check is claimable at the same time as the four-year old immunisation.

The Healthy Kids Check Resource Kit contains information for medical practitioners, practice nurses and registered Aboriginal health workers concerning the Healthy Kids Check for 4 year old children. The kit contains fact sheets, a checklist and ‘Get Set 4 Life – habits for healthy kids’ guide.

Hard copies of the "Get Set 4 Life - habits for healthy kids' guide are no longer available. Instead, practitioners, parents and carers can download the Get Set 4 Life – habits for healthy kids’ guide.
