Health Economist Cadetships

The aims of the Health Economist Cadetship Program (HECP) are to: develop in Health Economist cadets an understanding of the business of the Department, as well as the Australian Public Service and government; employ quality Health Economists in sufficient numbers to meet the future workforce needs of the Department and; retain Health Economists in the Department and the APS generally.

Duration

The HECP is a two year program.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the HECP, applicants must:
  • have a degree in economics or an undergraduate major in economics and
  • be eligible for admission to the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Economics at Monash University.

Components

The HECP comprises:
  • nine months full time study in the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Economics at Monash University, Melbourne
  • a twelve week ‘industry placement’ in the Home Unit of the Department
  • twelve months training and development program in either the Home Unit or three structured workplace rotations of four months each in key areas of policy development, program management and corporate management linked to the Department’s Graduate Program.
