General Practice After Hours Program
This section of the website contains information on Australian Government funding for after hours GP services from 2008-2009.
The Australian Government’s new after hours grants program is the General Practice After Hours Program. Announced in the 2008-09 Budget, the new Program was formed by merging the Round the Clock Medicare: Investing in After Hours GP Services and the After Hours Primary Medical Care Programs.
Under the General Practice After Hours Program, $76.3 million in grants are available over the next four years to support the viability of after hours GP services. These grants will assist with the operating costs, or recurrent expenses, associated with providing GP services in the after hours period. Up to 100 grants will be made available in 2008-09. Under the Program, applications will be assessed on a competitive basis with grants limited to a maximum of $100,000 (GST exclusive) over a two year period.
Applications for the 2008-09 funding round of the General Practice After Hours Program have now closed. It is anticipated that preferred applicants will be notified in December 2008.
Applications for the 2009-10 funding round will be advertised in early 2009 in major metropolitan and regional newspapers, medical journals and the Department of Health and Ageing’s website.
