The Health and Ageing Factbook (PDF 3511 KB) (the Factbook) is one of a series of Factbooks developed by the Economic and Statistical Analysis Branch, Portfolio Strategies Division, intended as general information to improve community, government and private sector understanding of the Australian health care system.

The Factbook consolidated, for the first time in the one Departmental publication, a wide range of key statistical indicators of the Australian health care system presented in tables, charts and explanatory text, including health expenditure, health care service utilisation, and health outcomes. Information contained in the Factbook was sourced from across the portfolio and external agencies, and is in a form that is easily understood by a wide audience.

Help with accessing large documents

When accessing large documents (over 500 KB in size), it is recommended that the following procedure be used:

  1. Click the link with the RIGHT mouse button
  2. Choose "Save Target As.../Save Link As..." depending on your browser
  3. Select an appropriate folder on a local drive to place the downloaded file

Attempting to open large documents within the browser window (by left-clicking) may inhibit your ability to continue browsing while the document is opening and/or lead to system problems.

Help with accessing PDF documents

To view PDF (Portable Document Format) documents, you will need to have a PDF reader installed on your computer. A number of PDF readers are available through the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) Web Guide website.
