The Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee has recommended that the Australian Government subsidise, under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), the drug, trastuzumab (Herceptin), for the treatment of patients with HER2 positive early stage breast cancer following surgery. Certain conditions apply.

The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, in conjunction with the Australian Health Protection Committee, has arranged for two critically injured East Timorese nationals with gunshot wounds to be evacuated to Royal Darwin Hospital today (Sunday) for urgent medical attention. Arrangements are underway to evacuate a further eight injured patients, likely to be tonight.
