Specialist Obstetrician Locum Scheme (SOLS)

The Specialist Obstetricians Locum Scheme (SOLS) is a national initiative targeted at providing locum support for specialist obstetricians and GP obstetricians in rural and remote locations.

SOLS commenced in 2006 and aims to maintain and improve access to quality obstetrician care for rural women by providing efficient and cost effective locum support for the rural obstetric workforce. These may include facilitating access to personal leave, professional development or breaks from on-call commitments.

Please note: in line with the Review of the National Rural Locum Program (NRLP), administration of SOLS has been combined with the GP Anaesthetist Locum Scheme (GPALS). From 4 October 2012 the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) will administer both SOLS and GPALS, which combined will now be known as the Rural Obstetrician and Anaesthetist Locum Scheme (ROALS).
