The Quality Use of Medicines Evaluation Program (QUMEP) was introduced to fund scholarships, research, education and evaluation projects that focused on the Quality Use of Medicines (QUM). Many scholars and QUM stakeholders, for example prescribers, pharmacists, nurses and consumers, have undertaken and completed QUMEP scholarships and QUMEP projects. The QUMEP scholarships that were available through this program encouraged scholars from a range of professional backgrounds to develop and maintain QUM skills in their various fields.

The completed projects and scholarships have helped to establish Australia as the world leader in therapeutic guideline development, academic detailing and consumer medicine information.
