Grouper Software
Certification TestingGrouper software is used to determine the Casemix major diagnostic category (MDC) and diagnosis related group (DRG) for acute hospital stays using clinical and demographic information from the medical record.
The grouper software specification is created by the Department of Health and Ageing and then licensed to a number of software developers who build their own implementation of the specification.
Before any grouper software can be marketed the Department evaluates the grouping function and issues a certificate of acceptance. This is part of the certification testing process and ensures the correct grouping results are produced by all grouper software products offered for sale.
The department's acceptance testing is restricted to evaluating whether the software produces the correct grouping result. No other criteria are used in certifying the software.
While certified products generate identical grouping results they differ greatly in regard to the design of the user interface, software features and hardware requirements and intending purchasers should contact the vendors listed below:
