Summary of outcomes of the meeting held on 5-6 June 2008

- The ATAGI Pneumococcal Working Party, the ATAGI Mumps, Measles and Rubella/Zoster Working Party and the ATAGI Influenza Working Party delivered progress reports.
- ATAGI have agreed to establish a Haemophilus Influenzae b Working Party.
- The ATAGI considered a Pneumococcal Working Party report regarding lack of evidence to change recommendations to vaccinate all adults >65 years but acknowledge the need for continued monitoring.
- ATAGI reviewed the Influenza Working Party recommendations on 1) strategies to increase vaccine uptake in persons aged >6 months to 64 years, with a medical condition causing increased risk of adverse consequences from influenza, and 2) preliminary data regarding influenza disease burden in Indigenous and non-Indigenous children.
- ATAGI considered responses from the revised Australian Immunisation Handbook Zoster Chapter 3.26 Public Consultation phase.
- ATAGI noted that redevelopment of the Australian Immunisation Handbook 9th Edition website is progressing and is expected to be launched before 1 November 2008. The Australian Immunisation Handbook, 9th Edition (available in hard copy and PDF format) was launched on the 8 April 2008.
- ATAGI will be holding an Industry Consultation Day in September 2008.
- The scheduled date for the next ATAGI meeting has been rescheduled for 16-17 October 2008 in Melbourne.
