Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI)
The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) provides advice to the Minister for Health on the Immunise Australia Program and other related issues. In addition to technical experts, ATAGI's membership includes a consumer and general practitioners.ATAGI Terms of Reference
The Terms of Reference of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) are to:- provide technical advice to the Minister for Health on the medical administration of vaccines available in Australia, including those on the National Immunisation Program
- through the department, provide advice to research funding bodies regarding the status of current immunisation research and areas where additional research is required
- advise the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee on matters relating to the ongoing strength of evidence pertaining to existing, new and emerging vaccines in relation to their effectiveness and use in Australian populations
- produce the Australian Immunisation Handbook for the approval of the National Health and Medical Research Council
- consult with the National Immunisation Committee (NIC) on the content and format of the Australian Immunisation Handbook and implementation strategies, and
- consult with the Communicable Diseases Network Australia (CDNA), Advisory Committee on Prescription Medicines (ACPM) and the Standing Committee Advisory Committee on the Safety of Medicines (ACSOM) on matters relating to the implementation of immunisation policies, procedures and vaccine safety.

National Immunisation Committee (NIC)
The National Immunisation Committee is the peak group responsible for overseeing the development, implementation and delivery of the Immunise Australia Program and reports to the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) through the Communicable Diseases Network Australia (CDNA).NIC Terms of Reference
- Lead policy development and evaluation with respect to implementation of the National Immunisation Program and provide advice on strategic directions. Although NIP vaccines are the main focus and priority of NIC, this does not preclude consideration of implementation issues for other vaccines.
- Consult and collaborate with stakeholders and other peak immunisation related committees (including the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation [ATAGI] and the Communicable Disease Network Australia [CDNA]) on the development of national immunisation priorities, strategies and service delivery.
- Provide advice on communication strategies and materials for informing providers and the community about immunisation policy and programs.
- Establish task-oriented and/or time-limited working groups as required.
NIC Membership
Membership includes:- a nominee of Communicable Diseases Network Australia (CDNA);
- representatives from all jurisdictions;
- nominees from peak bodies including: the Australian Association of Maternal Child and Family Health Nurses (AAMCFHN), the Australian College of Midwives (ACM), the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA), the Australian Medical Association (AMA), Australian Medicare Local Alliance (AML Alliance), the Australian Practice Nurses Association (APNA), the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Rural Doctors Association of Australia (RDAA);
- National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS), technical expert and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person;
- experts in the field of immunisation and public health policy;
- a consumer representative nominated by Consumers Health Forum;
- a representative of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (NACCHO); and
- a representative from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
Members are appointed for a two-year term.
The Chair of NIC is the Assistant Secretary, Immunisation Branch of the Department of Health and Ageing.
The Deputy Chair of NIC is the CDNA's nominee.
