The purpose of HealthConnect Tasmania is to improve services through the delivery of integrated electronic health information.
Areas of focus for the HealthConnect Tasmania work program for 2007 and beyond include:
- Development of core e-health activities, This includes e-health promotion and communications, e-health governance and evaluation, e-health policy, planning and support, and e-health core systems and services.
- Implementation of a range of e-health projects across the State, all focused on the national outcome of "enabling healthcare providers to have access to a broader range of information through standardised secure electronic communication". Two of these projects are described below.
A trial of tough-book technology has been completed in the State's south. Ambulance officers from the Greater Hobart area participated in the electronic Patient Care Record pilot (ePCR), with 20 paramedics incorporating the e-health case management application into their work schedule, during the three month period of the project. As the project proceeds through the process of formal evaluation, Tasmania has been seen as a leader of innovative, electronic communication between ambulances and hospital emergency medicine departments.
