The purpose of HealthConnect Tasmania is to improve services through the delivery of integrated electronic health information.

Areas of focus for the HealthConnect Tasmania work program for 2007 and beyond include:

The process of providing electronic notification of hospital admission and discharge is now operational in all of Tasmania's public hospital sites, through the work of Electronic Notification of Hospital Events (ENHE).

A trial of tough-book technology has been completed in the State's south. Ambulance officers from the Greater Hobart area participated in the electronic Patient Care Record pilot (ePCR), with 20 paramedics incorporating the e-health case management application into their work schedule, during the three month period of the project. As the project proceeds through the process of formal evaluation, Tasmania has been seen as a leader of innovative, electronic communication between ambulances and hospital emergency medicine departments.
