Standards

The development of health information standards underpin the effective operation of HealthConnect. Widely accepted and implemented standards are needed to ensure the seamless movement of information across the network. The standards allow different information systems in the health sector to readily communicate with each other.

A secure framework with sound security standards is necessary to ensure the confidentiality of consumer health information. Standards are being developed in the areas of: data, security and authentication, messaging and communications, terminologies, coding and classification systems.
