The NSW Electronic Health Record (EHR) will provide clinicians and consumers a means of accessing a longitudinal record of an individual's health and health care over their lifetime.

The NSW project commences with two lead implementations in different locations addressing different populations. The Hunter area project will involve up to 7,000 people aged 65 years and over living within 5 post code areas. The Greater Western Sydney project involving up to 60,000 children from zero to 15 years of age living within 5 post code areas.

The system will provide summary level information of care events from public hospitals, community health, emergency departments and general practice. The system will go-live in the Hunter area on 23 March 2006 with the Greater Western Sydney site following shortly after.

Consumer participation in the Electronic Health Record is voluntary.
