Evaluation of the National Drug Strategic Framework (NDSF) 1998-99 - 2003-04
Published by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing for National Drug Strategy
September 2003
The report was funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing in partnership with the Intergovernmental Committee on Drugs (IGCD) and undertaken by Success Works.
According to the evaluators, the current NDSF sets out a shared vision, a framework for cooperation and partnership, and a basis for coordinated action to minimise the harm caused by drugs in Australia over a five year period. The Framework maintains the focus on harm minimisation, which has formed the basis of Australia’s National Drug Strategy since 1985, and encompasses a wide range of approaches, including:
supply-reduction strategies designed to disrupt the production and supply of illicit drugs;
demand reduction strategies, designed to prevent the uptake of harmful drug use, including abstinence-orientated strategies to reduce drug sue;
a range of targeted harm-reduction strategies designed to reduce drug-related harm for individuals and communities.
