Why is this important?

  • Older Australians receiving aged care in the community need to feel confident that they will receive good quality care.
  • This measure provides an additional $26.8 million of funding to strengthen the quality assurance framework for community care packages. This includes increased monitoring of the care being provided by means of spot checks, as well as developing better models of care planning and delivery.

Who will benefit?

  • New and existing community care recipients will benefit from this measure through better assurance of quality care in the community. This includes recipients of almost 40,000 current community care packages including Community Aged Care Packages (CACPs), Extended Aged Care at Home (EACH) and Extended Aged Care at Home Dementia (EACHD) as well as those who will receive care through the additional 7,200 community care packages made available through Securing the Future of Aged Care for Australians.

What funding is the Government committing to the initiative?

  • The Government is committing $26.8 million to this measure over four years.

What have we done in the past?

  • This initiative builds on existing quality improvement measures in the community care sector, complementing work currently under way as part of the Australian Government’s A New Strategy for Community Care – The Way Forward.
  • The Australian Government announced in the 2004-05 Budget that it would provide an additional $2.2 billion over five years for aged care. Since then the Government has announced the provision of a further $1.6 billion over five years as part of the new aged care funding package Securing the Future of Aged Care for Australians.

When will the initiative conclude?

  • This is an ongoing measure.
