Funding will be continued to the tune of $24.2 million over four years to assist people living in retirement villages to access the same forms of community care that are available more widely.

Why is this important?

  • Residents of retirement villages will be assisted to access the same forms of community care as are available in the wider community.

Who will benefit?

  • Retirement village residents (including those who received care under the former Retirement Villages Care Pilot) will have improved access to community aged care which will enable them to remain living in their homes and prevent, or defer, the need to move into a residential aged care facility.

What funding is the Government committing to the initiative?

  • The Government has committed to continued funding of $24.2 million over four years to improve access to community aged care services across the retirement village sector.

What have we done in the past?

  • In the 2002-03 Budget, the Government provided $14.8 million over four years to trial ways of improving retirement village residents’ access to aged care services.

When will the initiative conclude?

  • This is an ongoing initiative.
