Why is this important?

  • Aged Care Assessment Teams assess older people’s care needs and refer them to the most appropriate services available to meet their needs. Demand for their services is increasing with the ageing of the population.
  • Continuing this funding will assist Aged Care Assessment Teams to keep pace with the rising demand for assessment services.

Who will benefit?

  • Frail older people, their families and carers will benefit through the continuing ability of Aged Care Assessment Teams to conduct assessments for care services and provide support in a timely fashion.

What funding is the Government committing to the initiative?

  • The Government will maintain funding of $20.1 million over four years to assist Aged Care Assessment Teams to keep pace with the demand for assessment services.

What have we done in the past?

  • Age related growth indexation for the Aged Care Assessment Programme was first introduced in the 1998-99 Budget in recognition of the ageing of the population and associated increasing demand for assessment services.

When will the initiative conclude?

  • This is an ongoing initiative.
