Improved health outcomes for Australians living in regional, rural and remote locations.


Outcome 5 was managed in 2004-05 by the Health Services Improvement Division. The role of the Division was to coordinate the Department’s overall rural health programs across a number of outcomes. The Division also had special carriage of a number of targeted rural health programs.

The Department’s State and Territory Offices, as well as other program areas across the Department, also contribute to achieving this outcome.

The Department’s rural health programs also contribute to improving services and access to health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and there are important linkages to work carried out by the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, which manages Outcome 7, and to Quality Health Care, Outcome 4.
