In the 2011-12 Budget the Australian Government announced the consolidation of 159 whole or part Health and Ageing programs within 18 flexible Funds, which came into operation from 1 July 2011. The establishment of flexible Funds will, over time, reduce red-tape for funding recipients in line with the National Compact; provide increased flexibility to government to respond to emerging health and ageing issues; and deliver better value for money and evidence-based funding.
