Why do I need to be a healthy weight?
Eating healthy food and being active can help you to maintain a healthy weight. If you are overweight or obese, you are at risk of all kinds of health problems, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart attack, stroke and kidney disease.Women who are overweight can have problems getting pregnant, or have complications during pregnancy.

Why do I need to eat healthy food?
Your body needs healthy food to keep it going. If you put unhealthy food into your body, you are putting yourself at higher risk for all kinds of health problems.We all need fruit and vegetables to be healthy and strong. Fruit and vegetables have important vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that our bodies need to keep working properly. Experts recommend that we eat two serves of fruit and five serves of vegetables every day. The diagram below illustrates what one serve of fruit or vegetables is:
If you can’t get fresh fruit and vegetables, canned and frozen fruit and vegetables can be just as healthy. But try to choose canned fruit in natural juice with no added sugar or vegetables with no added salt.
You should also try to eat cereals and grains, such as wholemeal pastas and breads, as well as some lean meats and some dairy foods. Cut right back on sugary, salty and fatty foods.
Drink plenty of water.

Thirty minutes or more of daily physical activity can help make you feel better and help you maintain a healthy weight. It can also help to reduce high cholesterol and high blood pressure and reduce your risk of having a heart attack or developing type 2 diabetes.Top of Page
